Hoping to find your celebrity crush on Tinder? You're probably out of luck. That's because the uber rich and ridiculously good-looking are reportedly granted access to a secretive, members-only area of the app called Tinder Select. While these exclusive members start out using the basic Tinder app, a source tells TechCrunch that people "who do really well on Tinder" are invited to join the VIP area, and have the option to nominate others to join as well, though nominees get no such privilege. It isn't clear how Tinder chooses members, but there's speculation it involves one's Elo score, which Tinder CEO Sean Rad previously told Fast Company was a measure of "desirability" based on a "very complicated" algorithm.
A Reddit user reported getting a Select invitation five months ago, which suggests it's been around for at least that long with no official mention from Tinder. It's possible the company realized ordinary users wouldn't be pleased; one such user complains in a tweet that Tinder is stripping women of a Pretty Woman fantasy. However, an iNews reporter says she did find a link to Tinder Select on Tinder's website. When clicked, though, it simply asks users to download the Tinder app, with no direction toward any VIP room. And you'll know you're using Tinder Select if given the opportunity: Users see a navy blue "S" at the top of the app along with a toggle bar allowing them to flip between the two app versions. (Yes, celebs reportedly do use Tinder.)
