(Newser) – Jimmy Kimmel is taking issue with a recent study claiming 24% of Americans haven't read a book in the past year. He thinks the figure should be higher and, on his show Thursday, offered some corroboration in interviews with people on the street. Asked to name any book—the Bible would've been acceptable—plenty of people, even a former librarian, drew blanks. One man claimed to have read a book titled Horse by a guy named Moby Dick. Another answered, The Lion King. Asked one woman, "Do magazines count?" In their defense, "it is a weirdly broad question," Mashable notes. The segment ends with a clip from a 1990s NBA commercial. "When you know how to read, adventures come to you," says Shaquille O'Neal. "That's right. Thank you, Shaq," Kimmel concludes. (Read more Jimmy Kimmel Live stories.)
