As the country awaits President Trump's "major announcement" on the partial government shutdown, an ex-president got to work feeding those affected by it. USA Today reports on a Friday Instagram post from George W. Bush, showing him delivering pizza to his Secret Service detail; nearly 6,000 Secret Service agents are currently without a paycheck, per the DHS. In what ABC News calls a "rare political statement," Bush wrote that he and wife Laura "are grateful to our Secret Service personnel and the thousands of Federal employees who are working hard for our country without a paycheck. And we thank our fellow citizens who are supporting them." Bush then added a "tepid" note, per ABC: "It's time for leaders on both sides to put politics aside, come together, and end this shutdown." Bush didn't elaborate on how the shutdown, now the longest ever at 28 days, could be brought to a close. (More government shutdown stories.)
