Schiff: There's 'Direct Evidence'

Was Michael Cohen's testimony the smoking gun Democrats wanted? Maybe not, but Rep. Adam Schiff suggests he has enough evidence already: "I think there is direct evidence in the emails from the Russians through their intermediary offering dirt on Hillary Clinton as part of what is described in writing as the Russian government effort to help elect Donald Trump," he said Sunday on Face the Nation, per the Hill. "They offer that dirt. There is an acceptance of that offer in writing from the president's son, Don Jr., and there is overt acts and furtherance of that." Schiff didn't say that justified impeachment, but did argue it's enough for a criminal-conspiracy case. For more around the dial:

  • Prague: "That’s something you can verify." So said Rep. Jim Jordan on Meet the Press about Cohen saying he'd never visited Prague, which the infamous Christopher Steele dossier claims Cohen did to coordinate with Russian officials, per MSN. "So that undermines this whole dossier, which remember, was the basis for this whole crazy investigation to begin with."
  • Warmbier: "Look, North Korea murdered Otto. I think Kim had all authority to do that," said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on This Week about the death of Otto Warmbier, per the Guardian. "I think Kim knew what happened."
  • Security: "The fact that he, in effect, chooses to give a family member, overriding the recommendations of the community, bothers me a great deal," Sen. Mark Warner said on State of the Union of President Trump ensuring Jared Kushner got security clearance, per Politico.
  • The door: "The president held that door open for North Korea in Singapore. They didn't walk through it. He held it open for them again in Hanoi. They didn't walk through," said national security advisor John Bolton on Fox News Sunday about negotiations with Pyongyang, per Fox News. "He's ready to hold it open again."
  • The climate: "If you net this out, what's going to require sacrifices is the course of inaction," said presidential candidate and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on This Week about climate change, per the Hill. "You've got to understand there's enormous cost of doing nothing here."
