With the Duchess of Sussex—better known as Meghan Markle—just days away from giving birth to her and Prince Harry's first child, there are rumors the royal couple might be leaving the United Kingdom. Sources tell the Times of London that Prince Harry's advisers are working on a plan that would see the couple move overseas, probably to one of Britain's former colonies in southern Africa, for two to three years. The plan is for Harry and Meghan to take up a "bespoke" role that would involve charity work and promoting Britain, the sources say. They both have ties to the region: Harry spent two months working with orphaned children in Lesotho in 2004, and he and Meghan vacationed in Botswana early on in their relationship.

The sources say that the move is seen as a way for the "rock star" royal couple to spend time out of the British media spotlight while still promoting the Commonwealth. "There are discussions in palace circles about: how do we harness Harry and Meghan?" a source tells the Times. "How do you harness this phenomenon that has emerged? You make it productive." The couple recently moved from London to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, and insiders say no decision about moving abroad will be made until 2020 at the earliest. Elle reports that Buckingham Palace has declined to confirm or deny the rumor. "Any future plans for the Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles," a palace spokesperson said. (More Prince Harry stories.)
