"It was crazy." That's how one witness describes to Golf.com the chaos that erupted at the US Open on Friday after an unmanned golf cart ran amok and slammed into a group of spectators, injuring five. The Californian reports that the incident at the Pebble Beach golf course in California occurred after a vendor parked the cart, loaded up with boxes for deliveries, and walked away from it. One of the boxes tumbled onto the accelerator while the driver was gone, sending the cart careening into people waiting on line for concessions near the 16th hole, per the Washington Post. "All of a sudden there was a runaway cart and one guy running after it, then a bunch of people running after it," a woman who saw the crash in real time tells Golf.com.

She adds, "It was actually coming straight for the concession line and then it turned, just on its own, and it didn't stop. It started driving in circles. It ran over like, five people." The California Highway Patrol says a 58-year-old woman was hurt, as were four men ranging in age from 25 to 82; the vendor was one of those injured. At least two people were hospitalized. The CHP, which is still investigating the accident, says one of those hurt suffered a spinal injury, one came out of it with a broken arm, and a third had minor injuries. It's not clear how serious the injuries were for the other two who were hurt. The Californian notes that many golf carts can be automatically taken out of park if the accelerator is pressed.
