Julio Iglesias has long refused to provide a DNA sample to settle a Spanish man's claim that he is the 75-year-old Latin singer's biological son. A Spanish judge has now decided that the sample isn't needed. Judge Jose Miguel Bort Ruiz in Valencia cited a "very obvious physical resemblance" Wednesday in ruling that Iglesias is indeed the father of 43-year-old Javier Sanchez-Santos, whose mother claims she had a weeklong affair with the married Iglesias in Sant Feliu de Guixols, Spain, in July 1975, reports CNN. Ruiz also cited "certain contacts and dealings" between Maria Edite Santos, a former ballerina from Portugal, and Iglesias that "make it not unlikely or unreasonable the possibility that sexual relations existed between them." Iglesias has eight other children, including pop star Enrique.
Ruiz said Santos had provided "very specific data on the property, location, and interior layout of the villa" where Iglesias was staying at the time her son was conceived. The judge also suggested Iglesias' refusal to provide a DNA sample was incriminating, per the BBC. Iglesias' lawyer says the singer, who received a lifetime achievement award at this year's Grammys, plans to appeal the ruling and would be willing to submit to a DNA test under certain circumstances. A 1992 court ruling also determined Sanchez-Santos was Iglesias' biological son, but it was overturned on appeal in 1994. (More Julio Iglesias stories.)
