A 27-year-old man suspected of murdering American biologist Suzanne Eaton in Greece has been detained, with local media alleging he has confessed to the crime, reports the BBC. On Monday morning ABC News reported by way of a source that Eaton had suffered defensive wounds inflicted by a knife. In its latest report, the network cites a "high-level police source" as saying the man claimed he intentionally ran into Eaton with his car; it's unclear how the car and knife might sync together, or how that jibes with a police statement viewed by the BBC that allegedly gives "sexual abuse" as a possible motive.

A rep for Crete's police department says the suspect lives in Kissamos, about 20 miles away from Chania. That's where Eaton, a molecular biologist with Germany's Max Planck Institute, was attending a conference. Local media say the suspect is married with two children. A coroner told local media that Eaton's death was "not immediate" and "there was duration involved." Eaton, who went missing July 2, was found six days later in a WWII bunker. Her body is being transported to Frankfurt, Germany, on Tuesday, reports NBC News. (A source says crucial evidence was left at the scene.)
