The list of Sears and Kmart stores closing is growing. In early August, the parent company announced that 21 Sears and five Kmart stores would be shuttered in October. TransformCo now plans to close nearly another 100 stores, USA Today reports, by the end of the year. The company hasn't released a total, but employees and buyers are reporting the news about individual stores. Sites including thelayoff are keeping track. A vendor said 80% of the staff at Sears' corporate headquarters in Illinois was laid off, per Forbes, and an employee at a California store that hadn't appeared on a closings list said that store will close.

The company had said last round that more closings were possible. "Our goal remains to return the company to profitability and preserve as many jobs as possible in the communities we serve," it said Aug. 7. At the time, TransformCo said it had about 380 stores still operating. Liquidation sales at the additional stores closing could begin in a couple of weeks. (More Sears stories.)
