Driver recklessness, not a mechanical issue, was the cause of the horrific crash that injured actor Kevin Hart and two others last month, according to a California Highway Patrol report released Thursday. Investigators say Jared Black, who was driving Hart's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, lost control of the muscle car after accelerating on the Mulholland Highway near Malibu, the AP reports. Black and Hart suffered serious back injuries while Black's fiancee, Rebecca Broxterman, had minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Investigators say it appears that nobody in the car was wearing a seat belt. Hart crawled out of the vehicle after it crashed into a fence and went down an embankment, leaving his two companions pinned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that investigators took the extensively modified 720 horsepower vehicle apart and found no mechanical issues that could have contributed to the crash. Authorities have said they do not believe alcohol was a factor. Hart, 40, broke his silence on the crash in a statement released through an attorney Thursday, E! News reports. "I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery," said the actor, who spent 10 days in the hospital after the Sept. 1 crash. Hart could face lawsuits from Black and Broxterman because the car was not equipped with airbags or safety harnesses. (More Kevin Hart stories.)
