What helps keep a city afloat (and even thriving) as others hit hard times: a healthy, growing economy. WalletHub took a look at more than 500 cities of all different population sizes, looking at growth and decline over a seven-year stretch. The site examined 17 metrics in two key categories: "Sociodemographics," which includes everything from general population growth to a rise in the numbers of both those who are of working age and those who have a college education; and "Jobs & Economy," under which fall such stats as decreases in poverty and unemployment rates, increases in business and startup numbers, and rises in the amount of venture capital investment. Here, the cities across America whose economies are seeing plenty of positive action, with Florida's Lehigh Acres on top:

  1. Lehigh Acres, Fla.
  2. Mount Pleasant, SC
  3. Bend, Ore.
  4. Enterprise, Nev.
  5. Frisco, Texas
  6. Fort Myers, Fla.
  7. Meridian, Idaho
  8. St. George, Utah
  9. Cape Coral, Fla.
  10. Round Rock, Texas
See what other cities made the list here. (These are the best- and worst-run cities in America.)
