Protests erupted around Hong Kong Friday after the death of a 22-year-old student who had been in a coma since early Monday, when he fell from a parking garage during clashes between police and protesters. Alex Chow's classmates at the University of Science and Technology called for an investigation of the death, and of why it took paramedics at least 20 minutes to arrive, the BBC reports.

Chow reportedly fell as police fired tear gas into the parking garage and the surrounding area to disperse protesters, but police have denied involvement in the death. They have also denied delaying the ambulance. This is believed to be the first death directly linked to anti-government protests in the territory, though there have been rumors of other deaths after clashes, RTHK reports.
