A man whose lungs were damaged beyond repair by vaping has undergone a double lung transplant at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. The hospital says it believes it is the first in the country to perform the procedure on a patient harmed by vaping, Detroit Free Press reports. The hospital says more information on the patient and his condition will be provided at a press conference Tuesday. The hospital says the patient will not attend the conference because he wants to maintain his privacy, but he has asked doctors to show pictures of his injuries to "warn others," CNN reports. The CDC says more than 2,000 cases of severe vaping-related illnesses and around 40 deaths have been reported this year. (The CDC said last week that its investigation of the illnesses has made a breakthrough.)
