A Legend in his own time: John Legend has been named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2019—and he says he finds it a bit "perplexing." "I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure," he says. "Everyone's going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title." He jokes that he is also following Idris Elba, "which is not fair and is not nice to me!" Last year, the 40-year-old singer and actor became the first African-American man to score an EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. Blake Shelton, a fellow coach on The Voice, joked Tuesday that the People award plus his win on the show gave Legend a "VEGOTSMA," reports USA Today.

"Mostly I want to thank Blake Shelton," Legend retorted. "I sat next to him for the last few months and learned his sexy ways. I observed every move he made, every utterance from his mouth. And some of it rubbed off on me." Wife Chrissy Teigen reacted with glee on Twitter, CNN reports. "I cannot WAIT for people to get mad about John being the sexiest man alive," she tweeted. "It's my new Starbucks holiday cup." She later added: "The sexiest man alive just made me a ham sandwich." Legend tweeted an old photo of himself, saying "1995 John would be very perplexed" to be following 2018 Idris Elba as Sexiest Man Alive. "Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you," he said. (Legend has released a controversial new version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside.")
