Lisa Page on Trump: Tweets About Me Are 'Sickening'

"I'm done being quiet." That was the tweet Sunday from an account said to belong to Lisa Page, the former FBI lawyer repeatedly excoriated by President Trump, along with ex-FBI agent Peter Strzok, for texts they'd sent to each other about Trump before and shortly after the 2016 election. Now, the 39-year-old has broken a nearly two-year silence, speaking with the Daily Beast on the gut punch she feels each time Trump mentions her name. "My heart drops to my stomach when I realize he has tweeted about me again," she says. "The president of the United States is calling me names to the entire world. He's demeaning me and my career. It's sickening." She's also thrown that Trump has accused her of treason, "despite the fact that I know there's no fathomable way that I have committed any crime at all." She adds: "It never goes away or stops, even when he's not publicly attacking me."

The piece also delves into Page's rise through the DOJ ranks, her role starting in mid-2016 in the investigation into Russian election interference, and the firing of James Comey, "a devastating moment at the FBI." Page also talks on how "crushing" it is to see Trump's DOJ "[abandon] its principles of truth and independence." So what spurred Page to finally speak? Trump simulating Strzok having an orgasm at an October rally in Minneapolis. "I had stayed quiet for years hoping it would fade away, but instead it got worse," Page says. "I decided to take my power back." A DOJ inspector general report coming out next week is expected to clear Page of acting unprofessionally or having bias against Trump that would've affected her work. However, Page notes, "I don't kid myself that the fact will matter very much for a lot of people. The president has a very loud megaphone." More here. (More Lisa Page stories.)
