That Famous Love, Actually Scene Now Stars Boris Johnson

His message is about Brexit and voting Conservative, though, not about love

Either because we've seen the real deal or parodies of it, most of us are familiar with what Mashable calls "the creepiest scene" from the 2003 movie Love, Actually, where the character played by Andrew Lincoln whips through a stack of cue cards proclaiming his love for the character played by Keira Knightley. Now there's a new parody to add to the mix, with the UK's prime minister playing the unrequited one—except his mission isn't to spread a message of love, but of Brexit and voting for Conservative Party members. In the two-minute-plus clip, Boris Johnson shows up at the door of a potential voter ahead of the nation's Dec. 12 general election, wielding those familiar cue cards. In this case, however, the cards hold messages such as "With any luck, by next year we'll have Brexit done (if Parliament doesn't block it again)" and "your vote has never been more important."

"We only need 9 more seats to get a majority," his next cards read. "Your vote will make all the difference." He then walks off, saying into the camera: "Enough. Enough. Let's get this done." Hugh Grant, who played the UK prime minister in Love, Actually—and a vocal critic of Johnson who's been stumping for anti-Brexit candidates—has responded to the Johnson video, with insinuations of Russian influence, per the Independent. "I thought it was quite well done, very high production values, but clearly the Conservative Party have an awful lot of money," Grant said on a BBC Radio 4 program. "Maybe that's where the rubles went." He also pointed out a cue card was missing from the original, in which Lincoln says Christmas is a time to tell the truth. "I just wonder if the spin doctors in the Tory Party thought that was a card that wouldn't look too great in Boris Johnson's hands," Grant snarked. (More Boris Johnson stories.)
