The brief Donald Trump cameo in Home Alone 2 did not appear in recent Canadian broadcasts—and that isn't the kind of thing Trump lets slide. USA Today reports that the president teased Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the omission Thursday, tweeting: "I guess Justin T doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!" Trump added: "The movie will never be the same! (just kidding)." Canada's national broadcaster, however, says the Trump scene and several others were cut from the 1992 movie to make time for commercials, not for any political reasons. The CBC also says the cuts were made in 2014, before Trudeau became prime minister and before Trump launched his presidential campaign.

"The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot," says CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson. "These edits were done in 2014, when we first acquired the film." Trump has said he is proud of his appearance in "one of the biggest" Christmas movies, although Matt Damon told the Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that Trump would not allow movie shoots to take place in his buildings unless a part was written in for him. He said a Trump scene was filmed for Scent of a Woman at Trump's request. "You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out," Damon said. "But I guess in Home Alone 2 they left it in." (More President Trump stories.)
