The front pages of London's Sunday newspapers, Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020. The papers fronted the news that Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry and wife Meghan will no longer use the titles "royal highness" or receive public funds for their work under a deal that lets them step aside as senior royals.   (AP Photo/Frank Augstein)

Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have gotten things sorted with the British royal family, it's time for Markle's royal pain of an estranged paternal unit to pipe up and make his feelings on their exit from royal life known. "When they got married they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the royals and to represent the royals," Thomas Markle tells an interview with Britain's Channel 5, via Sky News. "This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, making it shabby—they shouldn't be doing this." Further, his daughter and her husband are "lost souls" who are turning House Windsor "into a Walmart with a crown on."

Where there's one estranged Markle, a second isn't usually far behind and Thomas Markle's other daughter, Samantha, chimes in, saying that her half-sister was seduced by the glamor of royal life but ultimately couldn't take the spotlight. "From my perception, I feel she did enjoy it when there was the fab four and the photographs of her hair blowing in the wind and the smiling and the contrived British accent. But when the public (began) to criticize the behavior and expenditure, the tune changed and it became a bit more attribution error, avoiding accountability, flipping the script."
