In one of his record-breaking 142 tweets on Wednesday, President Trump announced that he will be attending this year's anti-abortion "March for Life" on Jan. 24. "See you on Friday...Big Crowd!" he tweeted, sharing a tweet from organizers. Trump will be the first president to attend the event in its 47-year history, which started the year after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision established a woman's legal right to an abortion, the New York Times reports. In 2018 Trump became the first president to address the march by video, and in 2017 Mike Pence became the first sitting vice president to attend the Washington, DC, event.

Trump, who described himself as "very pro-choice" in 1999, has been praised by March for Life for moves including appointing anti-abortion justices to the Supreme Court and cutting taxpayer funding for abortions, CNN reports. "We are so excited for him to experience in person how passionate our marchers are about life and protecting the unborn," March for Life president Jeanne Mancini said Wednesday. NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue called it an "act of desperation" from a man trying to "gin up a vocal and extreme minority" as his presidency unravels. (More March for Life stories.)
