One woman was killed and five others injured in a shooting on a Greyhound bus traveling from Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay area early Monday, reports CBS News. Police say the male suspect also was a passenger on the bus, though there's no word on a motive, reports KBAK-TV. He is in custody. The woman killed has been identified only as a 51-year-old, reports ABC News. Of the five injured passengers, all adults, two were in critical condition. Police are crediting "heroic actions" on the part of passengers in the incident, but haven't gone into detail.

The shooting took place about 1:25am when the bus was on Interstate 5 near Grapevine, roughly 80 miles northwest of Los Angeles. California Highway Patrol spokesman Brian Pennings said the driver immediately pulled over after the shooting, and he said "heroic actions" by passengers led to the shooter leaving the bus, without his gun. The driver then got off at the next exit and parked at a gas station so the wounded could be helped. About 40 people were on board at the time, reports NBC News. (More shooting stories.)
