Prince Harry and Meghan Markle turned up in Miami on Thursday, their first joint public appearance since they moved away from their duties as members of Britain's royal family. The public appearance was at a private event, USA Today reports, that no one said much about. The prince evidently gave a speech at a corporate event, but JP Morgan wouldn't say what the couple's role was. Buckingham Palace confirmed the sighting, which also marked their first appearance in the US since they've apparently moved to Canada. Harry, Meghan and their son, Archie, have been living on Vancouver Island since leaving England.

It may have seemed like a likely place to spot Harry and Meghan, but they evidently will not be seen at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. The couple declined an invitation, per Hello! magazine. There would have been a logic to their going: Harry's brother and sister-in-law attend the British film awards—the BAFTAs—every year, Harper's Bazaar points out. (More Prince Harry stories.)
