A sign of how Mitt Romney's vote to convict President Trump on impeachment is playing in conservative circles: The chair of CPAC says he would be afraid for the GOP senator's "physical safety" were he to attend the group's annual conference later this month, reports the Daily Caller. "People are so mad at him," Conservative Political Action Committee chief Matt Schlapp told Greta Van Susteren on Full Court Press. The issue actually became a moot point last month when Schlapp formally disinvited Romney from this year's forum after he voted to allow witnesses in the impeachment trial. Schlapp also told Van Susteren that he no longer considers Romney a "conservative" and would never again credential him as such at CPAC events.

Better news for Romney: NBC News reports that his decision isn't hurting him with Utah voters. "It's surprising because it seems like the louder voice says he's betrayed the party, he's betrayed the people of Utah," 28-year-old Kelsey Malin tells the network. "But the people in my circle don't feel that way." NBC talked to dozens of voters in the state and found a prevailing sentiment: Voters are not angry with Romney because they feel like he voted his conscience. "He had his reasons for it," another Utah resident, 41-year-old Alan Anderson says. "Whether you agree or disagree with his reasons, at least he had the courage to say whatever he felt was right."
