Mom: Video Proves Son Was 'Hunted Down Like an Animal'

"I am trembling with anger over what I just witnessed," wrote activist Shaun King Tuesday in a tweet that advised readers to "CLICK AWAY" from the video he shared if necessary. "This is the lynching of Ahmaud Arbery," he continued. "It's one of the worst things I've seen in my entire life." He wasn't alone in his pronouncement. Joe Biden called it a "cold-blood[ed]" killing and called for an investigation into Arbery's murder. Their comments come after cellphone video emerged Tuesday that shows the Georgia 25-year-old's final moments. His family says he was out jogging outside of Brunswick when he was shot and killed, allegedly by former law enforcement officer Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis, 34. Arbery was black; the McMichaels are white. The latest:

• Arbery's mother hasn't watched the video, but she tells CBS News she hopes it "proves that my son was not committing a crime. He was out for his daily jog and he was hunted down like an animal and killed."

• McMichael formerly worked as an investigator in the local DA's office, and the case has shifted to a third prosecutor due to conflicts of interest. That DA is Tom Durden, who wrote in a letter posted to Facebook that he felt "the case should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn County for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr. Arbery." That's what will happen, though not until mid-June at the earliest due to the coronavirus. It's not clear what charges the grand jury will consider.
• The Guardian reports on what the graphic video, taken by an unnamed witness who was in another car, depicts: Arbery is jogging along a two-lane residential road and passes to the right of a white pickup truck that is stopped in the right lane with its driver's door open. As he moves back in front of the truck, a shot is heard. "Arbery is then seen struggling with a man holding a long gun as a second man stands in the bed of the truck brandishing a revolver. Two more shots are heard before Arbery stumbles and falls facedown on to the asphalt."
• The New York Times reports the shooting occurred around 1pm on Feb. 23. It cites a police report in the case in which Gregory McMichael says he saw Arbery running and thought he resembled a man suspected in a series of break-ins; he says he and his son armed themselves and then went after him.
• No arrests were made, which led to an outcry from the NAACP, reports the AP. "All I want to do is get justice for my son," said Arbery's father, Marcus, who said his son lived near the Satilla Shores neighborhood he was shot in. "This is terrible. It could happen to anybody's kid."
