Tech CEO Brutally Killed in Apparent Hit Job

The body parts of a 33-year-old venture capitalist and tech entrepreneur were found in garbage bags in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, kicking off an investigation into what authorities believe was a professional hit job. Surveillance video shows a person dressed head to toe in black and wearing a black mask join Gokada CEO Fahim Saleh in the elevator of his luxury condo building on the Lower East Side around 1:40pm Monday. That's when things turned very, very grim:

• Saleh, whose $2.25 million apartment occupied the entire seventh floor of the building, swiped a key fob but "appeared to grow uneasy when the person in black fumbled in the absence of ordinary elevator buttons," reports the Daily Beast. As shown on the elevator's camera, the pair exchanged words, though there's no audio.
• The elevator then opened directly into Saleh's apartment, a law enforcement source tells CNN. The person followed Saleh as he turned right. Saleh then fell to the floor. He's believed to have been immobilized with a stun gun.

• An autopsy shows Saleh died of multiple stab wounds to the torso, per the Daily Beast. A detective tells the outlet that the killer waited overnight, apparently to allow Saleh's blood to coagulate, before using an electric saw to remove his head and limbs, which were placed in bags.
• The killer was reportedly in the act when Saleh's sister arrived Tuesday after not hearing from her brother. She discovered his torso near the living room, per CNN. The electric saw was still plugged into an outlet and cleaning products were left behind. It "looks like a professional job," a law enforcement official tells the New York Times.
• Detectives believe the assailant escaped through a back door and down the building's stairwell, per the Times. They're now searching the neighborhood for any relevant surveillance video.
• It's unclear how the person entered the building, which Saleh had shared on Twitter. In a statement, the property's management company says there was extensive security but no doorman. "The unit owners, residents, board, and management are all quite upset," it adds, noting Saleh was on the condominium board.

• The son of Bangladeshi immigrants, Saleh was born in Saudi Arabia but grew up in upstate New York, per the Daily Beast. As a teen, he learned to code and launched teen-hangout.com. He later developed the prank-calling app PrankDial.
• More recently, Saleh co-founded Pathao, a ride-sharing company in Bangladesh, and Gokada, a motorcycle ride-hailing company in Lagos, Nigeria. When motorcycle taxis were banned in Lagos in February, Saleh established a food and package delivery service, per the Times. He also operated the Manhattan-based Adventure Capital fund.
• Sumeet Rametra, a friend from college, describes Saleh as a visionary and "a machine" who "was always trying to make money," per the Times. He notes the entrepreneur was able to buy his parents a home and a Tesla. A video posted to YouTube in 2016 shows Saleh surprising his father with the new car.
• "The headlines talk about a crime we still cannot fathom," his family says in a statement, per CNN. "There are no words or actions to provide any of us comfort except the capture of the person who exhibited nothing short of evil upon our loved one."
