Christina Applegate was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, fulfilling a dream she had at just 5 years old and occasioning her first public appearance since announcing her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis more than a year ago. "This day means more to me than you could possibly imagine," Applegate said in accepting the honor days before her 51st birthday, per CBS News. Noting she couldn't "stand for too long"—she was braced by her Married ... with Children costar Katey Sagal—she paid tribute to those who have helped her along a difficult road, per People.

"I don't say that I have friends, I have family," she said. "These people take care of me. They take care of me every day of my life and without them, I don't know what I would do." Applegate also called attention to her 11-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble. "I am blessed every day that I get to wake up and take you to your school. You are my everything," she said through tears. "Thank you for standing beside me for all of this. Oh, by the way, I have a disease," she told the crowd to laughs. "Did you not notice?"

The actor watched the unveiling while seated in a chair, a cane in her hand. She was also barefoot. As she later explained in a tweet, "for some with MS the feeling of shoes may hurt or make us feel off balance." She was joined by several other of her costars over the years, including David Faustino from Married … with Children; Selma Blair from The Sweetest Thing, who also has MS; and Linda Cardellini of Dead to Me, per People.
