A University of Virginia student has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, who was found in her Charlottesville apartment early this morning. Yeardley Love and George Huguely, both 22, played on UVa.'s highly ranked lacrosse teams, the Daily Progress reports. Police responding to a call about a possible alcohol overdose found Love's body, which showed signs of trauma.

"She deserved the bright future she earned growing up, studying here, and developing her talents as a lacrosse player,” the university president said in a statement about Love. "She deserves to be remembered for her human goodness, her capacity for future greatness, and for the terrible way in which her young life has ended."
