(Newser) – Wikileaks' founder has emerged from hiding from federal officials to announce plans to release a US troop massacre video leaked to the whistleblower website. The classified Pentagon video shows the Garani attack last year that resulted in the death of some 140 Afghanistan civilians, many of them children, Julian Assange has announced in an email to supporters. Assange disappeared underground last week to dodge authorities seeking to question him about classified information he may possess.

The last incendiary classified video released by Assange showed the shooting of unarmed journalists in Baghdad by US troops, which authorities believe was leaked by Army intelligence analyst Bradley Manning, who has been arrested. Officials fear that Manning may have turned over some 260,000 confidential State Department cables to the site. Assange charged that Manning has been treated unfairly, "detained and shipped to a US military prison in Kuwait, where he is being held” without trial, reports the Daily Beast. There has been no immediate comment from the State Department.
