Barack Obama sat down for an extensive interview with Brian Williams last night, but much of the hot-button stuff comes in a two-minute segment about, you guessed it, religion and country o' birth. When asked about the "significant numbers" of Americans who believe he is a Muslim, the president replied, "There is a network of misinformation that in a new media era can get churned out constantly. There were those who said I couldn't win as US senator because i had a funny name. I trusted the American people's capacity to get beyond this nonsense."

Williams pushed back, wondering if the "sizable number" said something about Obama's communication skills. Obama replied: "Well, look, Brian, I can't spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead. I don't think the American people want me to spend all my time on it." Mediate also notes that Obama told Williams he didn't watch any coverage of Glenn Beck's rally.
