US stocks edge higher in midday trade; China shares rebound

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are moving higher after Goodyear and other companies report strong results.

Gilead Sciences climbed 4 percent Wednesday after reporting a surge in sales. The drug maker raised its full-year sales forecast for a second time.

Twitter sank 13 percent after reporting sluggish customer growth and Yelp plunged 27 percent after sinking to a loss and cutting its outlook.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 109 points, or 0.6 percent, to 17,740 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 11 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,104. The Nasdaq composite increased 13 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,102.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.29 percent.
