MILFORD, Pa. (AP) — U.S. marshals who captured ambush suspect Eric Frein (freen) say he had a "defeated" look on his face when they took him into custody.

A three-man team spotted Frein near an abandoned airplane hangar Thursday evening and sneaked up on him, taking him by surprise.

Scott Malkowski (mal-KOW'-skee), who helped make the arrest, says Frein was unarmed and didn't put up a fight. Malkowski and a second commander say Frein suffered scrapes on his face while he was down on the asphalt.

Frein is charged with opening fire on a rural state police barracks in Pennsylvania, killing one trooper and seriously wounding a second. He was the subject of a seven-week manhunt across the countryside.
