BANJUL, Gambia (AP) — An adviser to Gambia's new president says former leader Yahya Jammeh emptied the state coffers and shipped out luxury vehicles by plane.

Mai Ahmad Fatty spoke to reporters Sunday night in Senegal, where new President Adama Barrow is still waiting to return home.

Jammeh flew into exile late Saturday, ending a 22-year reign of fear and a political standoff that had this tiny West African country on the brink of a regional military intervention.

The regional force has rolled into Gambia's capital to secure it for Barrow's arrival, greeted by hundreds of people dancing and cheering.
