Seismologists in Greece say a 4.9-magnitude earthquake has rattled the southern island of Crete. No serious damage or injuries have been reported.

The Athens Geodynamic Institute says the undersea earthquake occurred at 4:15 p.m. (1415 GMT) Thursday about 325 kilometers (200 miles) south of Athens.

The U.S. Geological Survey set the preliminary magnitude at 5.1. Different institutes frequently give different magnitude readings for the same earthquake.

Greece is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries.
