A key prosecution witness testifying in Amanda Knox's appeals trial has given conflicting reports as to whether he saw the American near the crime scene the night her British roommate was murdered.

Knox has been convicted of killing Meredith Kercher in the house they shared as students in Perugia.

In the first trial, Antonio Curatolo, a homeless man now in prison, placed Knox and co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito near the house the night of the Nov. 1, 2007 murder.

He gave contradicting statements Saturday, at one point saying he saw the two on Halloween night _ before the murder _ and at another suggesting he saw them the night of Nov. 1.
