TALLINN, Estonia (AP) _ A court has convicted a former government official in Estonia of treason and his wife for helping him carry out the crime.
The verdicts were announced Tuesday by a court that tried Aleksei Dressen _ a former veteran security police official working with Estonia's Interior Ministry _ and his wife, Victoria, during a trial that was closed to the public and the media.
The court did not say who 43-year-old Dressen had given sensitive government information to, but prosecutors said he and his wife were suspected of giving it to Russia's main security agency, the FSB, over several years.
The Harju Country Court sentenced Dressen to 16 years in prison. His wife, who was not a government employee, was given a suspended six-year sentence.
