Defense attorneys have rested their case in the murder trial of the U.S. neighborhood watch volunteer who says he fired in self-defense. George Zimmerman declined to testify and is pleading not guilty.

The death of black teen Trayvon Martin brought protests when Zimmerman wasn't arrested for weeks, and the case has raised questions about race and self-defense gun laws.

Prosecutors now plan to call two rebuttal witnesses. Both sides will then present closing arguments. The case is then sent to jurors.

Jurors saw video footage of Zimmerman telling his story to investigators.

One key question has been whether it was Martin or Zimmerman heard screaming for help on a police call that captured their fatal fight.
