Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spent much of Friday in a hospital while suffering from exhaustion. He went home after doctors cleared him to return to work, his spokesman said.

Reid was admitted to George Washington University Hospital early in the day after feeling unwell, spokesman Adam Jentleson said. Doctors diagnosed Reid as exhausted but found nothing more serious after tests.

In Reid's absence, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., opened the chamber's last session of the year.
