(Newser) – Six members of a Bronx church are dead and eight others injured after their van flipped on the New York state Thruway today. Police say the driver lost control after a rear tire blew. At least four of the survivors were seriously injured in the crash, which occurred about 40 miles north of New York City near Woodbury and backed up the interstate for hours. Of the 14 people in the van, 12 were women, and most were thought to be in their 20s. Details at the New York Times, Daily News, and New York Post.
