If Republicans win the House in November, they’ll highlight their differences with Democrats by starving signature policies—like health care—of cash, the Wall Street Journal reports. Although the GOP hopes to repeal the health care bill in the House, such a measure would likely fail in the Senate, so leaders are devising other ways to undermine it. Other Democratic initiatives like financial and environmental reform would get similar treatment.
"We need to establish the proverbial lines in the sand and show we are serious about limited government," says Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan. President Obama has said that attempts to strangle health care will backfire, and that Republicans want to "cut more taxes for millionaires and cut more rules for corporations." Republican plans to attack health care reform include blocking funding for new IRS agents and a new Medicare board.
