(Newser) – Paging Mrs. Malaprop: French politician Rachida Dati confused business with, ahem, pleasure yesterday during a radio interview. When asked about profiteering by overseas investment funds, she said, "I see some of them looking for returns of 20 or 25%, at a time when fellatio is almost non-existent." The Daily Mail notes that fellatio, in French, is pronounced "fellation" (inflation remains "inflation").

The 44-year-old apologized for the slip on Facebook, writing, "This kind of thing happens if you speak too quickly on this kind of program. It is unfortunate that this is the only political message that has been received on such a serious subject."

Had no idea with a name like O'Donnell she'd be part French too.

Like most Americans I rarely think about the rest of the world so the novelty of this story made quite an impression. Madame Dati is a very accomplished person and one of the most powerful ministers in Sarkozy's cabinet.

I suppose successful fellatio requires a spell of inflation beforehand...
