Russians Plan to Launch Space Hotel

Firm says 'comfortable' space station will be up by 2016

(Newser) – A Russian firm has good news for would-be space tourists worried about lousy food or getting cramped by astronauts performing experiments. Orbital Technologies says it aims to have a "comfortable" space hotel circling the Earth by 2016, the BBC reports. Chief exec Sergei Kostenko says the hotel will have four cabins—complete with portholes—and the company is thinking about having celebrity chefs on the ground prepare meals for guests.

The station will be "designed specifically for tourists," who will be ferried up by shuttle, Kostenko tells the AP. "But it will be more comfortable than the International Space Station because there won't be any unnecessary scientific equipment." It's not clear how the company—one of three currently planning space hotels—plans to get the project off the ground, although it has named Russia's state-controlled spacecraft manufacturer as its general contractor.

The company says Russian Soyuz crew capsules will ferry guests to its orbiting hotel.

Will they be on expedia or priceline? Imagine accidentally adjusting your settings to include that hotel and booking it. Congradulations your bid was accepted..... you have won a 4 star hotel located in space for 99 Rubels/night. (does not include air fair or envorionment fees).

The Russians have turned into amazing capitalists! Buying gas lines and oil drilling rights to supply Eastern and Western Europe and earning a lot of $ and power over other countries while we were trying to steal oil from Iraq and build a pipeline in Afghanistan by having wars which cost us hundreds of billions and have yet to earn us a penny or any power or goodwill.
