(User Submitted) – Fifty years ago, the culturally iconic cartoon The Flintstones debuted on ABC. Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty inhabited the fictional town of Bedrock in 10,000 BC in an equally fictional world inhabited simultaneously by humans and dinosaurs. Patrick (Imperator): It says "Newser Staff" next to your name, but the byline says "User Submitted." Pick One. If you can... Seriously: we get that you're trying to "pump up" the "Newser by Users" section of the site -- right down to stripping the "user" stories of their tell-tale gray background -- but do you really think that having the CEO of Newser pretend to be a Joe Sixpack "user" is the best way to do it? It sure ain't the most dignified. "Yabba Dabba Doo" indeed.

Seth MacFarlane will update 1960s classic

(NEWSER) - Fred and Wilma meet Peter and Lois? Sorta. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is taking a stab at reinventing The Flintstones, Fox television announced yesterday. Work will begin on the 21st-century version of the classic cartoon this fall, and the animated series will likely air in 2013. Though MacFarlane will give the 1960s show a modern-day spin, the Los Angeles Times reports it will still be about the Flintstones and the Rubbles living in dinosaur-era Bedrock.
