(Newser) – The prostitutes of one Spanish town are about to get a little more clothed. Women looking for customers on the rural highway outside Els Alamus in Catalonia will have to wear neon yellow bibs or pay a $55 fine. Police say they're just trying to protect the women's safety by preventing traffic accidents, pointing to a 2004 law that says pedestrians on major highways must don the high-visibility vest.

The Telegraph notes that the news has not been welcomed by all; the town's mayor has been accused of trying to drive the streetwalkers out of town. Prostitution is not illegal in Spain. (And brothels are a-OK in Canada. Click here for that story.)
