Stewart: Does Obama 'Get It'?

And what is 'it,' anyway?

Jon Stewart has noticed a recurring theme in the coverage of the president’s post-election press conference: The pundits are all eager to know if Barack Obama "gets it," he explained on last night’s Daily Show in a segment titled "The Mourning After." But they’re less than clear on what "it" is. “I mean, as pronouns go, ‘it’ is amongst the vaguest,” Stewart pointed out. “‘It’ won’t even choose a sex.”

Pundits were also eager to point out the boringness of the conference, Stewart noted in a series of video clips, calling it "vanilla" and saying the prez "looked like he was passing a gallstone." Asked many, why oh why wasn't he humorous? Kathleen Parker suggested something along the lines of "OK, God didn't give me big ears for nothing, I heard ya!." At the conference itself, press questions could be summed up as follows: “Mr. President, do you suck? And a quick follow-up: Do you suck so bad, you don’t even know how sucky you are?”
