NY Politician Busts Boys' Cupcake Stand

Young entrepreneurs ground up in legal Mix Master

(Newser) – A sweet deal turned into a sticky legal mess for two suburban New York boys aiming to raise some dough by selling cupcakes and brownies in a local park. A Westchester County politician called the cops on the 13-year-old kids because they were operating without a license. Young entrepreneur Kevin Graff was "so upset he was crying all the way home," said the mom of his business partner, Andrew DeMarchis. "He was worried he was going to have a criminal record."

Kevin's mom said the two friends are "good kids who haven't once gone to the principal's office. This was a very scary experience for them." The boys dreamed of using the cupcake funds to one day open a restaurant, and were cookin' with a cool $120 the first day of sales, notes the Daily Record. In hindsight, local Councilman Michael Wolfensohn now says he maybe should have talked to the boys himself, but added: "The police are trained to deal with these sorts of issues." The boys are lying low for now. "I feel a little defeated," said Andrew. (Click here for a depressingly similar story.)

Gosh, I hate the "poor little children we're just trying to . . . " So, there were only 2 in a public park, where it is not legal to sell without a license. What happens, if there is only 2 more on the other side of the park? Then 2 more, then 4 more, and so on. If we can't allow 100 kids to break the law, then 2 can't. The permits prevent too many people from doing it at the same time. Then, if the kids can do it, why can't the hot dog vendors?
