Rowling Sues Fan Site Author Over Potter Trivia Book
A Harry Potter fan begins to read the latest German edition of J.K. Rowling's seventh fantasy book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" after a book presentation Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, in Berlin, Germany. JK Rowling is bringing suit against a fan publication.   (Associated Press)

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is suing the creator of a devoted online fan site for trying to cash in on her work by publishing a book of Potter information, Reuters reports. Rowling had previously praised the site, the Harry Potter Lexicon, which compiles details from all seven books of the boy wizard's saga into an online encyclopedia.

But Rowling and Warner Bros. sued this week to block publication of the book based on the material, which is scheduled for release in the US this month. Rowling intends to write her own Harry Potter encyclopedia, which might include new material—revelations of characters' sexual orientations or otherwise. The Lexicon author insists his book is a "reference work" protected under fair use. (More Harry Potter stories.)
