NY's Lundqvist Shuts Out Flyers, 2-0

(Newser) – The New York Rangers' supposed high-powered offense has yet to show up consistently this young season, but if goalie Henrik Lundqvist continues to not allow any goals it won’t matter. Lundqvist had 30 saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season in the Rangers' 2-0 win over Philadelphia. The victory moves New York to 7-6-1 on the year.

Elsewhere in the Eastern Conference:

  • Canadiens goalie Cristobal Huet stopped 29 shots to lead the Habs to a 2-0 victory over Buffalo.
  • David Booth’s goal with 1:19 left in the third period lifted Florida over Tampa Bay.
  • Carolina beat Washington 5-0 on the strength of Cory Stillman's hat trick.
  • Sidney Crosby netted 2 goals as Pittsburgh beat New Jersey 5-0.

    Zach Parise’s goal 29 seconds into overtime gave New Jersey a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders and also clinched a playoff spot for the Devils. New Jersey has a two point lead on the New York Rangers for fourth place and can still win the Atlantic Division; a loss would have given the title to Pittsburgh, reports the Associated Press.     Buffalo’s playoff hopes remain alive – for at least one more day. The Sabres, battling every step of the way, overcame the Bruins in a 2-1 overtime win tonight.   • Huet Pays Dividends Again for Capitals

    Trading for Cristobal Huet paid off again for the Washington Capitals tonight, reports the Associated Press. Huet recorded his second shutout for the Caps and 17th of his career by blanking the Florida Panthers, 4-0, making 32 saves. It was Huet's fourth shutout of the season.
