Social Security to Be Drained by 2037

System will be permanently in the red unless Congress acts

(AP) – Sick and getting sicker, Social Security will run at a deficit this year and keep on running in the red until its trust funds are drained by about 2037, according to bleaker-than-previous estimates from congressional budget experts. The massive retirement program has been suffering from the effects of the struggling economy for several years. It first went into deficit last year but had been projected to post surpluses for a few more years before permanently slipping into the red in 2016.

This year alone, Social Security will pay out $45 billion more in benefits than it collects in payroll taxes, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said. That figure nearly triples—to $130 billion—when the new one-year cut in payroll taxes is included. The projected deficits add a sense of urgency to efforts to improve Social Security's finances. For much of the past 30 years, the program has run big surpluses, which the government has borrowed to spend on other programs. Now that Social Security is running deficits, the federal government will have to find money elsewhere to help pay for benefits.

So long as Social Security was running surpluses, policymakers could put off the need to fix the program. Now that the system is running deficits, it simply becomes clear that we need to act on Social Security reform. - Former SSA Commissioner Andrew Biggs

The Deficit is drowing due to Bush Tax cuts and two wars that were never paid for. If the Republicans really wants to lower the Deficit, than give back your Tax cuts. They have young people thinking that SS will not be there for them which is untrue. Paul Ryan is beating the drums for cuts to entitlement programs, which is what Charles and David Koch wants the Republicans to do. However, Ryan's first Budget Plan for 2011 he was trying to set up the Middle class and President Obama, the plan was to have middle class paying hight-Tax's before President Obama would know. Search for Paul Ryan's GOP 2011 Budget plan for which he had a co-writer. Paul Ryan is writting the new Budget Plan for which he will produce when completed, i can't wait.

In 2037 America will be full of very poor senior citizens sleeping in their grand childrens garages. But America's military might will be supported by outposts all over the world with billions and billions of dollars of men and material in order to deter atomic bomb attacks. How could this be prevented? America must, M U S T come together N O W in 2011 to prevent chaos in 2037!
