Soccer Team Suspended for Fielding Fake Jews Holy Mount Zion may be cast out of league By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff Posted Feb 16, 2011 3:04 AM CST Updated Feb 16, 2011 3:20 AM CST 7 comments Comments "It's absolutely disgusting," the manager of a rival team said. "They have shown a complete lack of respect towards the Maccabi League and all of the clubs and people involved with it." (Shutter Stock) (Newser) – Outraged members of a Jewish soccer league in Britain are calling for a team to be expelled for having phony Jews on the pitch. A suspicious referee made a complaint after hearing Holy Mount Zion players registered under the names Danny Potter and Simon Laub being called "Mariusz" and "Javier" during a game, and league officials discovered Facebook pages under the ringers' real names. "The club came to a meeting and admitted that they had been telling lies," the league's chairman tells the Jewish Chronicle. "The league is concerned that the club is not to be trusted. They're doing the Jewish community a disservice." The team has been heavily fined and suspended from the league until it can prove that all of its players are Jewish.
