Rent Is Too Damn High Guy Switches to GOP

Jimmy McMillan has had it with sucky Dems, wants to help GOP

(Newser) – Once upon a time, the rent was too damn high, but now the Democrats are just too damn sucky for Jimmy McMillan. The colorful onetime gubernatorial candidate is now a registered Republican, he tells Sal Gentile of PBS, mostly because "the Democratic Party sucked." And he's expanding his platform with a new slogan: "The deficit is too damn high." Other McMillan gems:

On what he brings to the table: Since 1995, “the Republicans have been in office, they just don’t know what to do. But I do. And I’m going to help them.”
On his chances at the GOP presidential nod in 2012: “We may get nominated by the Republican Party. We’re the strongest person right now in the race.”
On President Obama: “I want him to talk about how we’re going to reduce the deficit and create jobs. Remember when the president said ‘change is coming to America?’ But what he didn’t say is ‘spare change.’” Ba-dum-bum.

Jimmy McMillan says he's going after Obama's 'black ass'

(NEWSER) - It's on. Jimmy McMillan of the Rent Is Too Damn High fame says he's running for president in 2012, reports Ben Smith at Politico (who says he normally avoids fringe candidates but couldn't resist this one). "Tell Obama I'm coming after his black ass," the former New York gubernatorial candidate told Revolution Radio. (NEWSER) - Saturday Night Live took a jab at Rent Is Too Damn High candidate Jimmy McMillan last night, with Kenan Thompson giving what Gawker calls a "pitch perfect" impersonation. McMillan, noted host Seth Meyers, reportedly hasn't paid his $800 rent since the '80s. Responds Thompson (to everything): "Because the rent is too damn high!" (USER SUBMITTED) - The guy who claims the rent is too high ( too DAMN high, sorry ) in New York doesn't actually pay rent himself, reports the New York Times . Jimmy McMillan is running on the "Rent is Too Damn High" platform, despite not having paid rent himself for at least a decade. He says his $800-a month apartment in Brooklyn is provided to him by his landlord in exchange for maintenance work. More»
