Huckabee: Obama Grew Up in Kenya

Former governor misspoke, says rep

(Newser) – Mike Huckabee hasn't joined the birthers but he seems a bit mixed up about the details of President Obama's life. The possible GOP presidential contender told a radio host earlier this week that Obama, "having grown up in Kenya," might view the British as imperialists. Huckabee later said Obama lived in Kenya with his father and grandfather, when in fact the president grew up mostly in Hawaii but spent four years in Indonesia as a child. A Huckabee spokesman says he "simply misspoke," the Los Angeles Times reports.

"When the governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the president, he wasn't talking about the president's place of birth—the governor believes the president was born in Hawaii," the spokesman said. "The governor would, however, like to know more about where President Obama's liberal policies come from and what else the president plans to do to this country—as do most Americans." It's not the first political gaffe of the week: Texas Governor Rick Perry also misspoke; click here for that story.

Quite a "misspoke". So he meant to say "Indonesia" instead of "Kenya"? Did he mean to say "French" imperialists instead of "British"? I smell a guy trying to score points with birthers and bagger wingnuts.
